Marlborough Police responded to a report of a man smashing windows and breaking furniture in his trailer at Val's Mobile Home Park around 1:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, Sgt. Zachary Attaway told Daily Voice.
Responding officers were trying to find Chris Harper, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Attaway said. When they approached his home, Harper walked onto the front porch with a knife, held it up and threatened to stab officers.
He then barricaded himself inside the home after being ordered to drop the knife and threatened anyone who tried to break in, Attaway said. Harper also said he had a gun on him.
A SWAT Team was eventually called in to deescalate the situation and tear gas was deployed at the home, Attaway said. This forced Harper out of the home where he was sent to the hospital for treatment. The standoff lasted more than five hours, according to Attaway.
Harper was charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, and threatening to commit a crime, Attaway said.
